Unlike garlic, asafoetida does not have what is known in Ayurveda as a ‘tamasic’ (dulling) influence on the mind and senses. Asafoetida is used to strengthen Agni (digestive fire) and calms Vata dosha. Fenugreek is added to strengthen Agni without stimulating Pitta dosha.
