Like all types of caraway, cumin counteracts flatulence and improves the digestion of heavy foods. This is why it is ideal with pulse and cabbage dishes.

To get the best taste, briefly fry cumin in some purified butter (ghee), then add to the dish.  It also goes well with salty lassi (yoghurt drink), chutneys or pickles.
