Laddu

£5.50

This Indian sweet is according to an original recipe that uses ghee instead of butter. The traditional Sanskrit name used in Ayurveda for laddu is modak, meaning ‘a preparation that gives joy to the body from the inside’.

Ayurveda considers laddu to be especially effective in promoting digestive fire, jathar-agni. Laddu were traditionally gifted to those undertaking pilgrimages. Upon arrival at the holy location, the pilgrims ate laddu after the long and arduous journey, as it was believed to quickly restore physical energy and to strengthen the mind for the upcoming meditation and prayer.
